Art in the Seventh Art
A series of monthly screenings at the B&E Goulandris Foundation
The B&E Goulandris Foundation’s programme “Art in the Seventh Art” brings painting, sculpture and cinema closer together by presenting, once a month, films dedicated to significant artists whose works the public encounters in the Foundation’s permanent Collection.
The aim of this programme is to highlight the creative dialogue between the visual arts and cinema, as well as to shed light on the lives, obsessions and artistic paths of creators who played a decisive role in the evolution of art.
Screenings take place in the Foundation’s Amphitheatre and are accompanied by a brief introduction that places each film within the historical and artistic context of its creator. In this way, the public has the opportunity to gain a more complete understanding of the artists featured in the Collection, to see how their works connect to their personal and artistic journeys and to explore how one art form influences and shapes another.
Screening Schedule
The programme begins on Friday, January 23, with the film Cézanne et Moi (2016), directed by Danièle Thompson and starring Guillaume Canet and Guillaume Gallienne. The film follows the complex and often tempestuous relationship between artist Paul Cézanne and his friend, writer Émile Zola, and will be screened at the Foundation’s Amphitheatre at 20.00.
The programme continues on Friday, February 27 with the screening of “Bonnard, Pierre et Marthe” (2023) directed by Martin Provost and starring Cécile de France, Vincent Macaigne and Stacy Martin. The film is dedicated to the life and work of great French artist Pierre Bonnard. The screening will begin at 8:00 p.m. at the Foundation’s Amphitheatre and is being held with the kind courtesy of Cinobo.
