The B&E Goulandris Foundation has prepared, once again this holiday season, a rich and entertaining programme filled with creative activities for both children and adults!

From December 20 through January 7, the Museum will host a wide range of children’s activities — from the traditional Christmas Art Camp to creative workshops designed for different age groups, theatrical performances — as well as events for the whole family, such as family tours and concerts for all ages. There will also be creative programmes for adults, including interactive guided tours and ceramics workshops.

At the same time, the Museum Shop’s Christmas selections offer plenty of ideas for original and unique gifts, while festive holiday treats will be waiting for visitors at the Museum’s Café-Restaurant.

ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN

This year, Christmas has its very own… secret destination at the B&E Goulandris Foundation!

The Foundation invites its young friends aged 5–10 on a magical festive journey full of imagination and creativity, through a Christmas Art Camp that transforms the Museum into a Christmas art workshop where every child becomes the protagonist of their own artistic adventure!

Starting with the Foundation’s permanent Collection and the new temporary exhibition “From Monet to Warhol,” children will explore sculptures, paintings and remarkable exhibits that will inspire their own creations.

Through play, exploration and artistic experimentation, children will create artworks inspired by the Collection, festive Christmas ornaments and constructions, sculptures made from toys “broken by the goblins,” as well as magical architectural sculptures.

This year’s children’s workshops at the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation invite young visitors to create, experiment and explore art through play!

From messy play in “Tabletop Colours” and pop-art superhero shields in “Super Shield!”, to the collaborative theatre-based activities of “The World Otherwise” and the surreal universe of Magritte in “The House with the Windows”, children discover the power of imagination and craft their own unique works of art.

Children’s theatre meets Pablo Picasso’s magical brushstrokes at the fascinating fairy tale for children aged 5+ “Hot chocolate with Picasso”! Following last season’s successful run, the popular children’s performance that brings to life the great Spanish artist’s masterpieces, written and directed by Notis Paraskevopoulos, returns to the B&E Goulandris Foundation Amphitheatre every Sunday at 11.00.

When a young girl seeks shelter after a sudden rainstorm, she discovers a magical place where the secrets of Pablo Picasso’s masterpieces are hidden. Guided by two comedy characters from the renowned artist’s paintings, she discovers life and art in an afternoon she will never forget. But was it all real, or was it just a dream? Let’s find out!

ACTIVITIES FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY

How can the Museum spark the imagination of the whole family?

The B&E Goulandris Foundation invites children and their families on a journey into the magical world of art, featuring hands-on activities and a guided tour that begins with the permanent Collection and culminates in the temporary exhibition “From Monet to Warhol.”

With the guidance of the instructors, both young and old discover stories hidden within the artworks, observe, play, create and take part in activities that transform the visit into a lively experience of imagination and expression. Through this shared experience for all family members, participation, personal perspective and the joy of creativity come to the forefront.

The Artika group presents the intergenerational performance “Shall We Dance?”, a theatre production with dance and music for audiences aged 2 to 5 and people over 65, at the Foyer of the B&E Goulandris Foundation Amphitheatre on November 8 and 15 and December 13 and 20.

The performance is based on the idea that very young children are capable and intelligent spectators, just like adults. At the same time, it brings to the forefront the elderly—often marginalised in our fast-paced society—who nonetheless form a precious part of children’s lives, especially those of very young children. Their worn bodies are, for children, an emotional refuge; a source overflowing with hugs, kisses and tenderness. Children see their grandparents just as they themselves feel inside: alive, full of energy and desires. That’s how we see them too!

ACTIVITIES FOR TEENS & ADULTS

On December 26 and January 9, art historian, art educator and mindfulness instructor Lydia Petropoulou helps audiences practice mindfulness to explore selected works from the temporary exhibition "From Monet to Warhol" at the specially designed programme “Mindfulness at the Museum”.

The B&E Goulandris Foundation welcomes this holiday season with a special Christmas interactive tour, taking place on Friday December 19, Saturday December 20 and Sunday December 21!

Inspired by the Foundation’s new major temporary exhibition “From Monet to Warhol,” participants will explore the luminous and harmonious artistic movement of Neo-Impressionism together.

The activity begins with a guided tour of selected works from the exhibition, where we will become familiar with the bright and complex colour technique of Pointillism. We then move to the Foundation’s Library, where, drawing inspiration from the artworks we observed, we create our own Christmas cards featuring a pointillist cover and a small surprise inside!

The B&E Goulandris Foundation invites you to get into the Christmas spirit and create your own ceramic ornaments under the guidance of ceramist Elpida Kourtzi, in the two-session ceramics workshop for adults and teens 15+ “Jingle & Clay!”, which will take place on Fridays, December 12 and 19.

In the “Jingle & Clay” workshop, adults and teens take part in a joyful and creative experience where clay becomes a tool for expression, play and personal storytelling. The handmade process of ceramics encourages us to connect with the material, slow down our pace and allow our ideas to take shape through touch, movement and the freedom of creation.

CONCERTS

At the presentation of their first album, titled Introducing Sunny Side Trio, the jazz ensemble breathes new life into beloved jazz standards while also performing original compositions, balancing between tradition and contemporary creation and highlighting the power of the female voice.

On Sunday December 21 the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation and the Athens Conservatoire join forces once more for a festive concert featuring the Conservatoire’s Young Musicians Choir.

At the Foundation’s reception area, in front of the Christmas tree, the Young Musicians Choir will get the Museum’s visitors into the festive spirit with carols and other all-time Christmas classics, from 12.15 and for approximately half an hour.

Free admission

On Sunday December 28 at 11.30, the City of Athens Philharmonic Orchestra will fill the Aghios Spyridonas square, in front of the entrance of the B&E Goulandris Foundation, with Christmas music and other well-known melodies.

Free admission

CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS

The B&E Goulandris Shop, with its great selection of original gifts and ornaments that are inspired by the Collection of the B&E Goulandris Foundation, adds its own festive touch to this year’s holiday season.

Christmas ornaments, scented candles, pillowcases with festive patterns, placemats, serving trays and 2026 daily/weekly calendars are just some of the shop’s home decorating and gift ideas, while the Foundation’s lucky charm for 2026, a pendant inspired by Henri Matisse’s album “Jazz”, is the perfect way to welcome the new year.

B&E GOULANDRIS CAFÉ-RESTAURANT

The B&E Goulandris Café-Restaurant welcomes visitors this holiday season with a variety of delicious treats!

In addition to hot chocolate, our young visitors will enjoy a specially designed kids’ menu, while grown-ups can savour warm mulled wine. At the same time, popcorn and cotton candy will be offered free of charge to visitors of all ages in the Museum’s outdoor area.
