4 Voices - 4 Centuries
A musical journey through four centuries at the B&E Goulandris Foundation
Four distinguished musicians—the pianist Dora Bakopoulou, violinist Nikos Mandilas, viola player Krystalia Gaitanou and cellist Christophor Miroshnikov—join forces for a journey through four centuries of musical expression, from the 17th to the 20th century, at the Amphitheatre of the B&E Goulandris Foundation on Friday, January 30, at 20.30.
The concert programme “4 Voices – 4 Centuries” opens with the radiant clarity of Bach’s Cello Suite No. 3, representing the architectural elegance of the Baroque era and continues with Handel’s Passacaglia as arranged by Halvorsen, a late-Romantic ode to the grandeur of the Baroque that bridges past and present.
The 19th century is heard through two contrasting voices: Schubert’s Andantino from his final piano sonata, offering inward lyricism from the Classical–early Romantic period and Brahms’ Piano Quartet No. 1, a work of high Romanticism in which personal expression and ensemble dialogue come together in full bloom. Together, these four works highlight how composers across four centuries explored structure, emotion and expressive individuality, uniting four distinct voices into a single, compelling arc.
