"Art and Autism"
Specially designed programme for children on the autism spectrum and for children with disabilities aged 7-12 and a parent/guardian
The B&E Goulandris Foundation, in collaboration with the Speech, Language and Learning Centre SPELL and Elisabeth Kyriakopoulou, is implementing the programme “Art and Autism,” a series of specially designed workshops for children on the spectrum and for children with disabilities aged 7 to 12. The programme begins on Saturday, May 23, and will take place once a month.
The programme aims to offer children an enjoyable and adapted creative experience, encouraging them to express themselves through visual art and to build positive relationships with the rest of the group as well as with their parent/guardian. Through the freedom of expression, children have the opportunity to experiment, create and above all enjoy the creative process.
The workshops are independent and draw inspiration from works in the Foundation’s permanent Collection. Under the guidance of specialised educators Katerina Zervou (Visual Artist – Special Education Teacher / Art Therapist) and Vanda Panagiotou (Special Education Teacher), children discover a different artist each time and experiment with painting, clay, collage, textures and printmaking, which become tools for play and imagination. They create their own works, which they take home at the end of each workshop.

BOOK IN ADVANCE→ May 2026: "Vincent van Gogh"
Saturday 23/05 | 14.30-15.45
Guided by Vincent van Gogh’s work “Olive Picking,” children get to know the artist through brief observation and discussion, and approach key elements of his work through games and sensory activities.
They then experiment with materials such as tempera paints, brushes, sponges and textures, creating their own individual artwork inspired by the painting. Through this process, free expression, imagination and collaboration are encouraged in a safe and supportive environment.
→ June 2026: "Roy Lichtenstein"
Sunday 21/06 | 16.00-17.15
Starting from Roy Lichtenstein’s work “Sunrise,” we travel into the world of pop art. Bold colours, clean lines and comic-inspired patterns provide inspiration to create dynamic images. We observe the artist’s vivid colours, characteristic dots and energetic lines, and discover how he creates images full of movement and energy.
Through observation games, colour experimentation and creative activities, children explore the Ben-Day dots technique, try out colour combinations and create their own pop art piece inspired by “Sunrise.”
