On Friday, February 27, 2026, the film Bonnard, Pierre et Marthe (2023), dedicated to the life and work of the great French painter Pierre Bonnard, will be screened at the Amphitheatre of the B&E Goulandris Foundation.

Directed by Martin Provost, the film focuses on the profound and defining relationship between the artist and his companion and muse, Marthe de Méligny, illuminating the delicate boundary between life, love and creation. Through an atmospheric narrative, the film reveals Bonnard’s inner world and the way everyday life, memory and emotion are transformed into painting. Through their sensitive and richly coloured story, a new reading of the artist’s journey—from Pierre to Bonnard—is proposed.

The leading roles are played by Cécile de France, Vincent Macaigne and Stacy Martin, whose performances capture the intensity and complexity of the artistic and human relationship at the heart of the film.

The screening forms part of the Foundation’s ongoing dialogue between the visual arts and cinema and is of particular interest, as works by Pierre Bonnard are presented both in the permanent Collection and in the exhibition “From Monet to Warhol.”
