Ceramics and Printmaking Art: Creating a functional object with colour and carving
Two-session ceramic printmaking workshop for creating a stoneware clay plate, with Elpida Kourtzi (in Greek)
The B&E Goulandris Foundation, in collaboration with ceramic artist Elpida Kourtzi, is organising a ceramics workshop for adults and teenagers aged 15+ titled “Ceramics and Printmaking Art: Creating a functional object with colour and carving.” The workshop will take place over two sessions, on Fridays January 23 and 30.
Drawing inspiration from works in the B&E Goulandris Foundation Collection, participants will create unique, functional ceramic objects for everyday use. After completing both sessions, participants will receive their ceramic pieces fired and glazed, presented in gift packaging.
- First session: Following a brief historical overview of the development of functional objects, participants will create their own ceramic pieces. Using the slab-building technique, each participant will shape their own plates.
- Second session: Participants will be taught printmaking and decorative carving techniques using engobes (slip colours). By selecting from a vibrant colour palette that reflects their personal expression, they will cover the surface of their pieces and then carve into the clay to create imaginative designs.
After the completion of both sessions, all participants’ ceramic works will be glazed and fired at 1,220°C.
