"Free at Last! Finding the Joy of Singing Again"

Renowned singer, songwriter and vocal teacher Maria Papageorgiou returns to the B&E Goulandris Foundation for the third consecutive year with a new vocal workshop titled “Free at Last! Finding the Joy of Singing Again”. The workshop begins on November 9, 2026, and comprises seven monthly sessions, running through April 2027.

The aim of this new cycle of sessions is to explore a more meaningful relationship with the voice, the body and artistic expression. The workshop is open to everyone, with no musical knowledge or previous professional experience required.

Our voice and breath are two functions intrinsically connected to our emotional expression and sense of balance. Drawing on the “memories” held by our bodies, from the womb onwards, of how we breathe; on the memory of our vocal range as expressed through our everyday emotions; and on the discovery of the fullest resonance of our voices and the use of our muscles, we will bring to the surface these deeply rooted physical imprints.

Each month, participants will meet on the first floor of the permanent Collection of the B&E Goulandris Foundation, surrounded by rare works by leading 19th- and 20th-century painters and sculptors, creating a holistic experience centred on art and expression. Through experiential exercises, we will explore the voice and breath, while also discovering the experience of polyphonic singing. As the sessions gradually unfold, a new circle of people will come together, forming a musical community and a space for free expression, where each individual voice meets the voices of others and becomes part of a shared musical ensemble.

The seventh session will feature the final presentation of the vocal workshop, open to the public, as the culmination of the collective voice, creativity and shared rhythm that will have developed throughout the group’s journey.
