On the occasion of this year’s International Museum Day theme, “Museums Uniting a Divided World,” the B&E Goulandris Foundation is organising a free guided workshop at its Library exploring the ways in which museums can serve as bridges of communication between people and cultures.

As trusted and open spaces, museums function as meeting points for people and cultures. In an era marked by social polarisation and unequal access to knowledge and culture, museums have the power to act as bridges of communication. Through the preservation of cultural heritage and collective memory, and by creating welcoming and accessible spaces for all, museums contribute meaningfully to the strengthening of dialogue, inclusion and peaceful coexistence.

In the workshop “Museums Uniting a Divided World,” speakers Notis Paraskevopoulos, Christina Tsoulfidou and Vasiliki Sideri will use works from the Foundation’s permanent Collection as a starting point to help participants, who will be divided into three different groups, discover how the interpretation of a single work of art can change depending on the perspective from which it is approached. The workshop has been designed to encourage empathy and dialogue among people of different identities, while highlighting how museums strengthen connections between generations, communities and countries by promoting diversity, sustainability and mutual trust.

Notis Paraskevopoulos is Vice President of the Hellenic Initiative Against Alzheimer’s Disease (HIAAD), co-founder of the thallo programme and author of the book “365 Days Close to Old Age”. Christina Tsoulfidou works as a project manager at the international humanitarian organisation International Rescue Committee (IRC) Hellas. Through her work she actively contributes to the defense of fundamental rights, the promotion of gender equality and the protection of the dignity of refugee populations. Vasiliki Sideri is a kindergarten teacher with ten years of professional experience in preschool education and in the design and implementation of educational activities for children. She maintains a strong interest in the visual arts, theatre and music, which she incorporates into the educational process.
