“Oops! My eye’s playing tricks on me!”
Workshop for children aged 8-10 (in Greek)
Inspired by Op Art, children aged 8-10 create their own “op art weaving boxes” using the technique of paper weaving. With colourful paper strips, they form geometric, three-dimensional patterns, learning how simple materials can be “woven” to give movement and depth to flat surfaces.
Op Art, or Optical Art, is a style of painting that emerged in the 1960s, based on the idea that artists can create visual effects that “trick” the viewer’s eye.
As early as the Bauhaus School, artists explored how lines and shapes could evoke a sense of motion and depth. Through repeated and distorted patterns, the surface of a painting seems to come alive, pulsing and vibrating before the viewer’s eyes.
