“The Embroidery of Art”
Embroidery workshop for adults with Malvina Kokoraki (in Greek)
Traditional art meets modern aesthetics through the Collection of the B&E Goulandris Foundation, in the new embroidery workshop for adults “The Embroidery of Art”, held in the Foundation’s Library in collaboration with embroiderer and designer Malvina Kokoraki. The workshop consists of independent three-hour sessions every second Sunday from 10.30 to 13.30, beginning on Sunday, October 19.
Through techniques rooted in Greek folklore and designs inspired by works from the Collection, we explore how embroidery can become a medium of contemporary expression, experimenting with its application in modern creative practice. Participants learn basic embroidery techniques on a hoop — such as stem stitch, backstitch, French knot, satin stitch, and chain stitch — while being encouraged to develop their own personal aesthetic and expressive style.
The workshop is suitable for both beginners and advanced participants, offering step-by-step guidance and aiming to highlight the timeless value of handmade creation.
Malvina Kokoraki was born and raised in Athens. She studied Sociology and spent a year in Sweden, where she first began engaging with embroidery. For the past nine years, she has been practicing this art form professionally, running her own business in Athens and teaching workshops for the past three years. She has collaborated with artists on exhibitions in Greece and abroad, combining tradition with contemporary creative approaches.
