When ceramics embrace the colours of Nicholas Kontaxis
Ceramics workshops for adults and teens 15+ with Elpida Kourtzi (in Greek)
The B&E Goulandris Foundation, inspired by the temporary exhibition “Catch me” by Nicholas Kontaxis, is organising three standalone ceramics workshops in collaboration with ceramic artist Elpida Kourtzi. The workshops, designed for adults and teenagers aged 15 and over, will take place on Fridays May 2, 9 and 16.
Together with Elpida Kourtzi, we will explore the artist’s vibrant palette and, inspired by his unique works, create patterns and colour compositions on ceramic plates and bowls in this hands-on experience.
At the beginning of the session, following a brief introduction to the art of ceramics and its direct connection to painting, participants will become familiar with some of the artist’s most distinctive pieces. Choosing from a variety of colours, they will knead fire-coloured and white clay. Then, using almost dance-like movements, they will spread these colours to create patterns and formations on a sheet of white clay, shaping it into a plate or bowl using only their fingers.
After the session, participants will receive their ceramic creations—fired and glazed—within 7-15 working days, packaged in a special gift box as a keepsake of their creative experience.
