World Alzheimer’s Day and Healthy Aging
Conference at the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation Amphitheatre
On Sunday, September 21, World Alzheimer’s Day, the B&E Goulandris Foundation collaborates for the third consecutive year with the Hellenic Initiative Against Alzheimer’s Disease (HIAAD) to organise a conference dedicated to Alzheimer’s disease and healthy aging. This year’s event goes beyond dementia, addressing more broadly the issue of healthy aging and demographics in Greece, through three separate discussion panels covering topics such as education, tourism, and culture. The first panel will explore how the public and private sectors, as well as charitable foundations, approach aging and design related programmes. The second panel is dedicated to inclusion initiatives for older adults developed by cultural institutions, as well as tourism for people aged 65+. The third panel, titled “Ask the Experts,” is an open dialogue giving the audience the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from experienced and established specialists.
The conference is open to all and will begin at 12:00 at the Foundation’s Amphitheatre, with opening remarks from Fleurette Karadontis, President of the Board of the B&E Goulandris Foundation, and Panayiotis Vlamos, Director of the Bioinformatics and Human Electrophysiology Lab (BiHELab) of the Ionian University and Chair of HIAAD.
Informative presentations will be given by Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Crete Maria Basta, psychologist and Scientific Head of the Ioannina Dementia Day Centre Maria-Lambrini Koula, Deputy Mayor for Intergenerational Solidarity at the City of Athens Olga Dourou, Advisor at the TIMA Charitable Foundation Paul Kidner, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Alpha Bank Rouli Christopoulou, Head of Business Development at the B&E Goulandris Foundation Katerina Markadaki, Commercial Director at Domotel Hotels & Resorts Katerina Petropoulou, Executive Director at Global University Hub – Metropolitan College Dr. Iannis Matsoukas, Head of Educational & Social Programmes at the National Opera of Greece Eva Karterou as well as Artistic Collaborator of Educational & Social Programmes at the National Opera of Greece Kiki Kerzeli. The presentations will conclude with Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University and President of HIAAD, Kostas Lyketsos.
During the final part of the conference, “Ask the experts: The public asks, the specialists answer,” the audience will have the opportunity to get answers to any specific questions regarding Alzheimer’s disease, addressed to Kostas Lyketsos, Maria Basta and Maria-Lambrini Koula.
The event will be moderated by journalist Ioanna Fotiadi.
