BELLE ÉPOQUE
31.10.2026 - 15.02.2027
This fall, the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation presents a major exhibition dedicated to Belle Époque, a defining period that profoundly shaped Europe’s cultural and social history. The exhibition opens its doors to the public on October 31, 2026 and will run until February 15, 2027.
The exhibition focuses on Paris. Through the spectacular rise of the poster, which came to dominate the public space, the “City of Light” reveals the ambitions, anxieties and contradictions of a society in transition: the widening access to art, the flourishing world of entertainment, the growing influence of a free press, the rise of modern advertising and the pivotal role of industrial development.
Featuring approximately 90 works, the exhibition highlights the distinctive creative vision of major artists including Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Alfons Mucha, Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen, Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis, Félix Vallotton and Henri-Gabriel Ibels. Together, these works offer a captivating panorama of a brilliant era: the Belle Époque.
The exhibition is curated by Marie Koutsomallis-Moreau, Head of Collection at the B&E Goulandris Foundation, and Marina Ferretti Bocquillon, Scientific Director Emerita of the Musée des impressionnismes Giverny.
