A story was born, but no one knows how! At the creative workshop A story with random shapes!, the B&E Goulandris Foundation asks children aged 4-5 (for children aged 3-4 click here) to give their own interpretation to Max Ernst’s work "While the Earth Sleeps", which he created entirely with his imagination.

Using as a starting point Max Ernst’s own words, that “Painting is not for me either decorative amusement, or the plastic invention of felt reality; it must be every time: invention, discovery, revelation”, children can tell their part of the story, by observing the artwork from different angles. What would happen if we saw it upside down? Would anything change?

Children use their imagination to discover their own perspective so that they can then depict their own, unique story in a collage book.
