The Foundation’s book collection includes over 6,500 volumes, in Greek, English and French which come, mainly, from the private collection of art books of its founders, Basil and Elise Goulandris, as well as from new acquisitions and donations.

The collection covers areas such as the Theory and History of Art, Painting, Sculpture, Drawing, Engraving, Architecture and the Decorative Arts. It includes exhibition catalogues, monographs and material relating to distinguished foreign and Greek artists, publications by Museums and Art Foundations from around the world, periodic art publications, encyclopaedias, art dictionaries, and others.

The resources of the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation Library are available to the public for reference in the reading area during the Museum’s regular opening hours. The Library also hosts educational programmes for children and teenagers, lectures and activities relating to art and culture.
