Is our world an endless geometric universe?

At the workshop Cézanne’s Minecraft: Notebook, page 1 children aged 8 to 12 discover Paul Cézanne’s “constructive” painting by observing the objects around them as if they were cubes, cylinders, cones and balls, all of them placed inside a colourful composition.

Fascinated by nature’s grandeur, the renowned painter came up with his own special technique to paint the landscapes he came across in his walks. His paintings look like pictures taken with a stereoscopic camera* or give the impression he was looking through a kaleidoscope.

Using as a starting point Cézanne’s work “Landscape with poplars”, that is part of the collection of the National Gallery in London and is on display at the B&E Goulandris Foundation until January 2025, children paint a moving landscape on a grid just like “building” a three dimensional world on paper step by step.

Their work will then become the cover of a personal, handmade notebook, where they will record their own “vision” about the world that surrounds us.

*Stereoscopic photography is a technique where a camera takes two simultaneous photographs of the same scene from two different angles (left/right eye).
