“Henri Cartier-Bresson”
Guided tours of the exhibition by the Foundation’s Head of Collections Marie Koutsomallis-Moreau
On Monday October 21, just a few days before the end of the tribute to landmark photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, the B&E Goulandris Foundation’s Head of Collections Marie Koutsomallis-Moreau will conduct two specially designed guided tours at 15.00 and at 17.00.
The tribute to iconic photographer Cartier-Bresson, that takes place with the contribution of the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson and is on display until October 27, consists of two independent thematic sections.
The first section is dedicated to Cartier-Bresson’s monumental album The Decisive Moment (Images à la sauvette) that was published in 1952 and has been described by Robert Capa as “A Bible for photographers”. 76 out of the overall 126 photographs included in the album are on display, from his travels to countries like France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, India, China, Indonesia and Burma.
The second section, titled Greece, features the photographs that Cartier-Bresson took during his three trips to Greece in 1937, 1953 and 1961 that come together and go on display for the first time. The photographs, most of them unpublished, are essentially a journey to different regions and archaeological sites around Greece and are accompanied by rich and unpublished archive material.
