Dimitris Tsakas “Sonic Horizons Trio” feat. Stella Valasi & Kimonas Karoutzos – Color Science
The latest series of the B&E Goulandris Foundation’s Jazz at the Museum concerts, which explores different aspects of the Mediterranean region drawing inspiration from the exhibition “Neo-Impressionism in the Colours of the Mediterranean”, continues on Friday March 8 with the concert “Color Science” by the Dimitris Tsakas “Sonic Horizons Trio” feat. Stella Valasi & Kimonas Karoutzos.
Dimitris Tsakas’ trio embarks on a musical journey influenced by the colours of the Mediterranean. Starting from Istanbul and the poetry of Nazim Hikmet, the seasoned saxophonist and his companions explore the music traditions in the main regions of the Mediterranean, the sea that brings together so many civilizations, ending their journey with the Spanish impressionist music of Manuel de Falla.
Dimitris Tsakas’ saxophone meets Kimonas Karoutzos’ double bass and they both join Stella Valasi’s santouri, producing special sounds and colours.
Composer and musician Dimitris Tsakas studied jazz saxophone at the Berklee College of Music, with a scholarship. He has participated in more than 200 albums as well as many concerts by Greek and foreign artists, while he has given many concerts with his own jazz band in Greece and abroad. He has released, among others, the albums “Growing up”, “A Man Dreams” and “Back of Beyond”.

MORE.COMAbout the "Jazz at the Museum" series:
The B&E Goulandris Foundation presents Jazz at the Museum, a series of tribute concerts to different jazz genres. Once a month, jazz meets visual arts and together they take us on a music journey to the heart of jazz, at the B&E Goulandris Foundation Amphitheatre and under the artistic direction of Dimitris Tsakas.
In this series, jazz ensembles draw inspiration from the Foundation’s exhibition “Neo-Impressionism in the Colours of the Mediterranean” and explore different aspects of the Mediterranean region. Following the Dimitris Tsakas “Sonic Horizons Trio” concert, the series will end on April 5 with the performance “Mediterranean Touch” by the Human Touch trio (Stavros Lantsias, David Lynch, Yiotis Kiourtsoglou).
