Engraving in ceramic art: Mugs & dishes

The B&E Goulandris Foundation, in collaboration with ceramist Elpida Kourtzi, is organising the pottery workshop for adults and teens (15+) “Engraving in ceramic art: Mugs & dishes” that will take place in two independent series, each one consisting of two three-hour meetings.

Inspired by the works of the B&E Goulandris Foundation Collection, participants will make their own unique ceramic utility products and after the end of the series they will take home their ceramics baked, glazed and gift-wrapped.

• • At the first meeting, following a short introduction to the evolution in the making of utility products, participants will make their own mugs and food dishes.

• • At the second meeting, participants will learn engraving techniques so that they can decorate their ceramics using engobes. They will choose the colours they prefer to paint the surface of their works and then they will carve creative designs on the clay.

Following the completion of both meetings, everyone’s ceramics will be glazed and baked at 1230°C.
