The dancer and the horse
Musical journeys of movement, emotions and imagination for children with ASD aged 7-12 and a parent/guardian
The B&E Goulandris Foundation, following the completion of the accessibility programme for neurodivergent persons in March 2024, launches on Friday December 20 the music therapy workshop “The dancer and the horse” for children with ASD aged 7 to 12 and a parent/guardian, promoting their right to socialisation and focusing on inclusion. The workshop takes place with the kind support of the Spell speech, language and learning centre and has also been scheduled for January 17, February 14 and February 21.
The works of the Foundation’s Collection come alive, revealing possible orbital motion. Motion can sometimes appear circular, direct or continuous – the same applies to sounds! Musical improvisations and activities involving hearing, video, movement and drawing give children the opportunity to get acquainted with the works of art, as music encourages their coordination.
Music therapy helps us bridge distances and connect with the child through musical/emotional coordination and co-movement. Quality connection with others is a starting point for self-understanding as well as understanding the world.
The program has been designed to boost social understanding, symbolism, imagination, personal expression, emotional coordination and coordination within the group. It further strengthens communication, socialisation and creating stories with various means as the children get acquainted with the works of the Foundation’s Collection.
