Preview of Wim Wenders’ new 3D documentary at DANAOS cinema exclusively for B&E Members
Just one day before the new 3D documentary of award-winning filmmaker Wim Wenders “Anselm” opens in selected movie theatres, the B&E Goulandris Foundation is organising a free screening exclusively for B&E Members at the DANAOS cinema on Wednesday October 11, at 21.00.
The documentary premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May to great reviews. In this unique cinematic journey, acclaimed director Wim Wenders unveils the portrait of one of the most important artists of our time: Anselm Kiefer, the innovative painter and sculptor who draws his inspiration from literature, poetry, history, philosophy, science, mythology and religion, so that he can explore the meaning of human existence and the cyclical nature of history.
Born in 1945, German artist Anselm Kiefer grew up in post-war divided Germany, witnessing his country’s guilt over its Nazi past. His work explores the dark side of humanity, stirring up the past. His painting “Des Malers Atelier” (“The Painter’s Studio”), on display at the third floor of the permanent Collection of the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation in Pangrati, presents the artist’s studio as a mysterious construction that emerges from a nightmare illusion, amidst a ravaged agricultural landscape where earth and sky become one.
