On Friday April 19, the Department of Music Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens will give an Easter concert at the B&E Goulandris Foundation Amphitheatre, with free admission.

The Department’s Capella Atenea ensemble will perform works by Henry Purcell (Fantasia in G major, Z. 742 and Dido’s Lament), J.S. Bach (Sinfonia from Cantata BWV 4 “Christ lag in Todesbanden” and the St Matthew Passion Aria “Erbarme dich, mein Gott”) as well as Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater.

Participating musicians are Ioanna-Omorfia Kotzioula, Iro Kartanou and Achilleas Beris (first violins), Maria Argyri and Nektarios Lanaras (second violins), Emilios Bartzis and Nikos Firgiolas (violas), Marina Tsigou (cello), Orfeas Konstantopoulos (double bass) as well as Eleni Kalograni and Villy Kyriakopoulou (vocals).

Leontios-Nikolaos Tsokas is the music supervisor.

The Department of Music Studies of the National and Kapodistiran University of Athens has a strong research profile in all academic disciplines related to music and musicology. Many of its faculty members are also musicians with active performing careers in Greece and abroad.
