On Sunday May 19, as part of the Piano City Athens 2024 festival, seven young musicians will showcase their talent at the B&E Goulandris Foundation drawing inspiration from works of the Foundation’s Collection related to water, in seven separate piano recitals that are under the artistic direction of Irene Anastasiou.
At this year’s Piano City Athens, hosted for the second year at the B&E Goulandris Foundation, water is the meeting point between music and painting. Seven young, upcoming pianists will use expressive techniques like the rubato, dynamics and wording, to portray in their recitals the changing moods and textures of water landscapes from selected works of the Foundation’s Collection, conveying the sense of narration and image.
Both art and music can excite the senses of viewers and listeners alike. The lively colours and powerful compositions of the works that make up the Foundation’s Collection can reflect the different expressive qualities, the dynamic wording and the fluid movements of piano music, creating a live “dialogue” that results in a powerful, multisensory experience.
The Piano City Athens festival brings people together through music. Following the success of the first event in May 2023, the festival returns for the second year and from May 16 through May 20 the city will turn into an enormous concert hall, with many different piano concertos taking place in public and private venues, transforming the urban landscape.
