Jazz at the Museum

Dimitri & Nestor Vassilakis – "Father & Son"

The B&E Goulandris Foundation’s Jazz at the Museum latest series, which is titled “Jazz Interactions” and explores the different ways that jazz music interacts with other forms of art, gets into the holiday spirit and is back on Friday, December 27 with the performance “Father & Son” by Dimitri and Nestor Vassilakis.

Composer and saxophonist Dimitri Vassilakis, who has an international career and has released albums with Candid Records, is also known for his extensive research on improvisation, poetry and artificial intelligence. He now embarks on a musical dialogue with his son, saxophonist Nestor Vassilakis, a representative of the new, dynamic jazz generation with influences from the London and New York scenes, who is currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

At the B&E Goulandris Foundation Amphitheatre they will present new compositions related to their “Ballads & Blues” project, against the backdrop of poetry and joined by George Kontrafouris on the hammond organ as well as drummer Jason Wastor.

Dimitri and Nestor Vassilakis have played together on different occasions, such as the Jazz Democracy Forum at the UN Headquarters in New York. They have performed in many international jazz festivals including the Nublu Jazz Festival New York, the Rhodes & South Aegean International Jazz Festival and the Bodrum Jazz Festival, in concert venues in Greece and abroad and they have collaborated with many musicians such as Jeff “Tain” Watts, David Liebman, Essiet Okon Essiet, Benito Gonzalez, David Kikoski, Craig Bailey, Sylvia Cuenca and Jean Toussaint.
